Nearly 70% of the youth served at Covenant House Florida in Orlando do not have a high school diploma or GED. To address this, Covenant house started a GED program that includes classes, a full-time GED instructor, tutors, as well as post-secondary education counseling for students interested in furthering their education. Last year, 13 youth finished their GED and this year 30 students are currently in the program!
Once a student completes the GED course, they are eligible to enroll at Valencia College with their tuition waived. They say knowledge is power and these kids are on their way to becoming the next generation of community leaders in Central Florida.
